How this is calculated
- Area = length × width.
- Base tonnage = area × (base depth ÷ 12) ÷ 27 cubic yards, × 1.4 tons per yard.
- Total = surface + base + excavation + demolition.
Before you order
- The base is the part that decides whether the driveway lasts, and it is the part a cheap quote cuts. A thin or uncompacted base fails within a few seasons whatever the surface cost.
- Frost depth matters in cold climates: a base that is fine in Georgia will heave in upstate New York.
- Drainage is not optional. Water under a driveway is what destroys it, and a quote with no grading or drainage line is incomplete.
- Prices here are national mid-range defaults. Replace them with your own local numbers — regional labour swings this more than material does.
