How this is calculated
- Floor area = length × width, plus closets and alcoves.
- With waste = area × (1 + waste %). The layout drives this far more than the room does.
- Boxes = square footage with waste ÷ coverage per box, rounded up.
- Trim = perimeter × 1.1 for mitre waste.
Before you order
- Buy it all at once and check the batch or lot number. Two production runs of the same product are often visibly different, and that difference shows up as a stripe across the floor.
- Keep the leftovers. A discontinued plank cannot be matched when a dishwasher leaks in year four.
- Floating floors need an expansion gap at every wall and a transition at every doorway — that gap is why the underlayment and trim lines are here.
- Acclimate the material in the room for 48-72 hours before laying it. Skipping this is the most common cause of buckling later.
