How this is calculated

  • Floor area = length × width, plus closets and alcoves.
  • With waste = area × (1 + waste %). The layout drives this far more than the room does.
  • Boxes = square footage with waste ÷ coverage per box, rounded up.
  • Trim = perimeter × 1.1 for mitre waste.

Before you order

  • Buy it all at once and check the batch or lot number. Two production runs of the same product are often visibly different, and that difference shows up as a stripe across the floor.
  • Keep the leftovers. A discontinued plank cannot be matched when a dishwasher leaks in year four.
  • Floating floors need an expansion gap at every wall and a transition at every doorway — that gap is why the underlayment and trim lines are here.
  • Acclimate the material in the room for 48-72 hours before laying it. Skipping this is the most common cause of buckling later.
