HeizerDesk Tile Calculator
Enter the area you are tiling and the size of the tile. This returns how many tiles that is, how many boxes to buy, and how much of the job is waste - which on a diagonal layout is more than most people expect. This is a free Tile Calculator — no sign-up, and the arithmetic is written out below so you can check it.

- Boxes to buy
- 9boxes
- Tiles for bare coverage
- 60tiles
- Extra for cuts
- 6tiles
- Area to tile
- 120sq ft
- Coverage you will own
- 144sq ft
How this is calculated
- Area = length × width.
- One tile covers (tile width × tile height) ÷ 144 square feet.
- Bare tile count = area ÷ area per tile.
- With waste = bare count × (1 + waste %), rounded up.
- Boxes = tiles ÷ tiles per box, rounded up.
Before you order
- Buy the whole job in one order. Tile is made in batches and two boxes from different runs can be visibly different shades - the batch number is printed on the box.
- Keep the offcuts and any spare full tiles. A discontinued tile is impossible to match three years later when one cracks.
- This counts tile only. Thinset, grout, backer board, membrane and trim pieces are separate.
