How this is calculated
- Local moves: crew hours × hourly rate, plus travel time beyond the local radius.
- Long distance: shipment weight × rate per hundred pounds per hundred miles.
- Stairs add roughly 45 minutes per flight; full packing service adds about 60% to the hours.
Before you order
- Interstate movers must give you a written estimate and are regulated by the FMCSA. Verify a mover's USDOT number before you book — moving fraud is common and the deposit is the bait.
- Binding and non-binding estimates are very different. A non-binding estimate can legally rise on moving day; a binding one cannot.
- Weight-based pricing means you pay to move things you may not want. Getting rid of furniture before the weigh-in is the cheapest saving available.
- These are national mid-range defaults. Peak season, end of month and end of summer all cost noticeably more.
