How this is calculated
- Pavers per square foot = 144 ÷ (paver length × paver width in inches).
- Pavers = area ÷ area per paver, × (1 + waste).
- Base and sand volumes = area × (depth ÷ 12) ÷ 27 cubic yards.
Before you order
- Edge restraint is not optional. Without it the perimeter pavers creep outward, the joints open, and the field unravels from the edge in.
- The base has to be compacted in 2-3 inch lifts. One deep dump of gravel compacts unevenly and the patio settles in waves.
- Bedding sand is screeded, never compacted before laying, and it must be coarse concrete sand — not mason sand, which holds water.
- Slope the surface about 1/8 to 1/4 in per foot away from the house.
