How this is calculated
- Studs = (wall length × 12) ÷ spacing, plus one, plus about 4 per opening for kings, jacks and cripples.
- Plate material = wall length × 3, for a single bottom plate and a double top plate.
- Board feet = (stud linear feet + plate feet) × board feet per linear foot for the stud size.
- Sheathing = wall area ÷ 32 sq ft per 4×8 sheet.

- Board feet is how lumber is priced in bulk, so this is the number to take to a yard for a quote.
