How this is calculated
- One roofing square = 100 square feet. It is the unit the supply house quotes.
- If you give a flat footprint, pitch multiplier = √(rise² + 144) ÷ 12 converts it to sloped area.
- Squares = area with waste ÷ 100. Bundles = squares × 3.
Before you order
- If you measured off a satellite image or a plan, that is FOOTPRINT, not roof area — you have to apply the pitch multiplier or you will under-order.
- Ridge cap is sold separately and the figure here is only a rough guess from the building size. Measure the actual ridges and hips.
- Starter strip, underlayment, drip edge, valley metal and fasteners are all separate line items.
