How this is calculated

  • Volume in cubic feet = area × (depth in inches ÷ 12).
  • Cubic yards = cubic feet ÷ 27.
  • One cubic yard covers 324 sq ft one inch deep.

Before you order

  • Screened topsoil and fill dirt are not the same product. Fill is cheaper and is for bulk grading; screened soil is what plants grow in.
  • Wet soil weighs much more than a ton a yard, which matters for delivery limits and for what your driveway will take.
  • Soil settles. Order about 10% over if you need a finished grade to hold.
